Dark, erotic and haunting, Patric Chiha’s “Domain” is an intriguing mediation on the intersection of two individuals, a youngster and his aunt, whose personalities are vastly different than their lives follow different trajectories.
The protagonist in this bizarre but riveting coming of age tale is the 17-year-old Pierre (Isaie Sultan), who becomes obsessed with his aunt Nadia (Béatrice Dalle), an eccentric mathematician whose intellect clashes with her alcoholism and fatalistic view of life. As Pierre discovers his budding sexuality, he attempts to rescue his beloved aunt, who is on a path to self-destruction.
Elegantly shot and nicely acted by the leads, “Domain” displays on screen Chiha’s impressively idiosyncratic vision.
