Eddie Murphy plays Rudy Ray Moore, the standup comedian who created the Blaxploitation character Dolemite in his comedy act, a pimp who owns a nightclub, and then went on to star in and produce the 1975 movie of the same name.
It’s Murphy’s comeback, and to promote Dolemite Is My Name he’s appearing on “Saturday Night Live” in December–for the first time in 35 years.
Audiences will also see the return of Wesley Snipes as “Dolemite” director D’Urville Martin.
Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter (Black Panther) designed the clothes for this 1970s spectacle extravaganza.
