Broadway Hostess (1935): Oscar-Nominated Musical Romantic Comedy

Helmed by Frank McDonald, Broadway Hostess is a musical comedy, best known for its Best Dance Direction Oscar nomination (for Bobby Connolly), a category that existed for only a few years in the 1930s, when many musicals were made.

Thematically, it tells the familiar story of a small town girl, Winnie (Winifred Shaw), who rises to stardom, and looks for love. Some think that her manger Lucky is attracted to her, though he falls for Iris (Genevieve Tobin), the rich socialite.
