Lionsgate’s Bombshell landed at the box-office below expectations, securing fifth place with $5 million after expanding nationwide to 1,480 venues.
The awards hopeful, starring Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman, is based on the Fox News anchors who went public with sexual harassment allegations against Roger Ailes.
Directed by Jay Roach and written by Charles Randolph, the film is based upon the accounts of several women at Fox News who set out to expose CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment.
Actors John Lithgow, Kate McKinnon, Connie Britton, Malcolm McDowell and Allison Janney appear in supporting roles.
Bombshell entered into a limited release in the United States on December 13, 2019, before a wide release on December 20, by Lionsgate.
The film received mixed reviews, with critics mainly praising the performances of the three leads but criticizing the inaccuracies and screenplay.
