In the Basement: Another Eccentric Panel From Austria’s Ulrich Seidl

Austria’s director of the landmark “Paradise” trilogy, Ulrich Seidl, has made another eccentric film, In the Basement, which depicts the singular relationships Austrians have with their lowest rooms.

Maverick director Ulrich Seidl explores the dark side of the human psyche with a look at basements fitted out as private domains for secrets and fetishes.
No desire or proclivity is off limits to Seidl’s curious, insatiable camera.
The characters include an opera-singing gunslinger, a Hitler-loving brass band, a hunter of exotic species, and some passionate devotees of S&M with an equal measure of curiosity and compassion.
