As I Open My Eyes, Leyla Bouzid’s¬†impressive debut film, depicts the clash between culture and family as seen through the eyes of a young headstrong¬†Tunisian woman, who rebels against her rigid clan as well as repressive society.

In the tumultuous process that follows, she is under pressure to balance the traditional expectations of her family with her creative life as the singer in a rock band that is politically charged.

The movie adds a panel to the growing body of films about the individual implications and social effects of the incipient Arab Spring.
