Antonia: A Portrait of Woman: Godmilow’s Oscar Nominated Short

“Antonia: A Portrait of the Woman,” an Oscar-nominated documentary by University of Notre Dame filmmaker Jill Godmillow, is one of 25 films selected by the Library of Congress for the National Film Registry for 2003.

A biography of Antonia Brico, history’s first female symphony conductor, the film was made in 1974 and broke through many boundaries in the genre by including animation, self-reflection and dramatic editing.

Godmilow has been a member of the Notre Dame faculty since 1992 and is the recipient of Rockefeller and Guggenheim fellowships and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
