Alice (2019): Josephine Mackerras’s Marital Drama (Women in Film)

Winner of the Jury Award at the 2019 SXSW Film Fest, Alice is a French marital drama, made by the Australian-born director Josephine Mackerras.

The Paris-based tale concerns a mother who discovers that her husband has used their bank account on hiring high-end escorts.

Surprisingly, she too decides that the only way to save her apartment from foreclosure is to imitate her hubby’s line of work.

The director presents in detail sex work, and how, under certain conditions, it can become an avenue of empowerment and self-awakening.
