John Cromwell directed The Silver Cord, a Pre-Code melodrama, based on the 1926 Broadway play of the same title by Sidney Howard.
Laura Hope Crews reprised her stage role as an overly possessive mother, whose domineering has a negative effect on the marriage of her son (Joel McCrea) and his strong, loving wife (Irene Dunne), who demands that his first loyalty should be to her.
