Stewart, Jimmy: Career Phases–Late 1940s and 1950s

Starting in the late 1940s, Jimmy Stewart began the most crucial phase of his career.  He began to shift away from his earlier image.  Stewart kept some elements of his screen image–drawling speech, hesitant manner–but he now displayed them in new and more varied settings (less juvenile).

In The Stratton Story, in 1949, Stewart began another line of portrayal that became a pattern, more mature and troubled men.
