Smith, Lionel Mark: Mamet's Regular Actor Dies at 61.

March 8, 2008–Lionel Mark Smith, a stage, movie and TV actor who appeared in many David Mamet's productions, died of cancer on February 13. He was 62.

Smith appeared in seven Mamet films and many of his plays. For “Oleanna,” a play about a university professor who is accused of sexual harassment, Mamet insisted that Smith play the professor–against the producers' wishes.

Born in Chicago in 1946, Smith had a three-decade career, which included mostly minor appearances in movies and TV shows, including “Days of Our Lives” and “The Unit.” His last role was as a homeless man in last year's “Stuck.”
