Segel, Jason: Actor Profile and Filmography

Actor Jason Jordan Segel is best known for his work with producer Judd Apatow on Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared and for the role of Marshall Eriksen in the popular CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother.” Segel now stars in and wrote Universal's comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.”

Segel was born January 18, 1980, in Los Angeles, and raised in Pacific Palisades. He was an aspiring actor during his school days and acted in local theater productions at Palisades Playhouse.

He later wrote a song for his character Nick to sing to the lead female Lindsay in an episode of “Freaks and Geeks.” Lindsay was played by Linda Cardellini, who Segel dated for a few years after show's cancellation. It was rumored that she dumped him for gaining weight, but most people take it as a joke.

Segel is known for his role as “Freak” Nick Andopolis on the short-lived NBC comedy-drama series “Freaks and Geeks,” about a group of suburban Detroit high school students in 1980. He has also had recurring roles on CSI: “Crime Scene Investigation” as Neil Jansen and on “Undeclared,” as Eric. When Seth Rogen planned to star in Superbad, Jason was attached to play Evan.

He currently plays Marshall on the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” which debuted on September 19, 2005.

Film roles include Slackers, SLC Punk!, The Good Humor Man, and Dead Man on Campus. In 2007, he appeared in Knocked Up, starring Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen and directed by Freaks and Geeks producer Judd Apatow. Segel stars in the lead in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which he wrote and Apatow produced, with Shauna Robertson, for Universal. Next, he will shoot “I Love You, Man,” for DreamWorks.

Segel, along with Nick Stoller, have been tapped by Disney to write and direct the next Muppets film. In “Sarah Marshall” Segel's character writes a “Dracula” musical performed by puppets.

In interviews, he stated the Dracula musical with puppets, as well as being dumped while naked, were real experiances he wrote into the movie. The creatures were made by the Henson puppeteers, and the experience inspired Segel to pitch his concept for a Muppets movie.
