Lin-Manuel Miranda had something special planned for his visit to the White House.
President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama hosted Miranda and the rest of the cast of Hamilton today for a special performance of songs from their hit Broadway musical.
After the event, the show’s writer and star was then joined by the president for a special “Rose Garden Freestyle.”
“I hope I don’t drop these cards,” joked Obama, who, after instructing the drummer to “drop a beat,” flipped through cue cards bearing words like “constitution,” “POTUS” and “Obamacare.”
Miranda then engaged in a freestyle rap, using Obama’s words as prompts.
“Immigrants we get the job done/This is so fun/Potus is holding up the signs/I’m not done,” he rapped.
Continuing, “Opportunity knocks and I can’t stop/I’m here with the president and my pops/And yo the mic drops.”
At the end, Obama asks, “You think that’s going viral? That’s going viral.”
