Hitchcock: Reel/Real Impact:–Taking Bathes and Showers

Hitchcock liked to tell a story of a moviegoer who sent him a letter about her daughter’s reactions to some scary movies.  After seeing Clouzot’s Diaboloque, his daughter would not take a bath, and after seeing Psycho, she won’t even take a shower.

The moviegoers than complained that “It’s getting unpleasant to be around here now,” and asked, “what should I do with her?”

To which, the director replied: “Send her to the dry cleaner.”
