The film was Oscar-nominated for its Special Effects, by Farciot Edouart and Gordon Jennings, photographic; Lorn Ryder, sound. However, the winner in that category was “The Rain Came,” whose special effects were supervised by Fred Sersen and E. H. Hansen.
The other nominees in 1939, a strong year for special effects, were: “Gone With the Wind,” “Only Angels Have Wings,” “The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex,” “Topper Takes a Trip,” and “The Wizard oif Oz.”
