Oscar: Minnellis–Award-Winning Family, Vincente, Judy, Liza

In 1958, Vincente Minnelli was named Best Director for the musical GiFamous Hollywood families have become an integral part gi. His former wife, Judy Garland, was not nominated for any of their previous collaborations (Meet Me in St. Louis, The Clock), but she was nominated twice for other films: As Best Actress for the musical A Star Is Born, and as supporting actress for the court drama Judgment at Nuremberg.

Then at the age of two, Vincente and Judy’s daughter, Liza Minnelli, made her film debut in a walkon part in her mother’s musical In the Good Old Summertime. Liza was later nominated twice: for The Sterile Cuckoo, which mother Judy urged her do though the film was released after her death, and for Cabaret, which garnered her the Best Actress. “I don’t want to think that I won the Oscar because of my mother,” Liza told the press, “That’s why I said in my speech, ‘Thank you for giving me this award.'”
