Oscar Actors: Rutherford, Margaret (The V.I.P.s)

Born May 11, 1892 in London; died in 1972.

A character actress of the British stage and screen, Rutherford made her screen debut in the 1930s. She became internationally famous as the inquisitive Miss Marple in several Agatha Christie movies of the 1960s.

In 1963, at age 71, she won the Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in “The V.I.P.s.”

It was her first and only Oscar nomination.

Four years later, she was named Dame of the British Empire.
