August 13, 2008–Andrzej Wajda began shooting his new film on “Tatarak,” based on a short story by Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz, on August 12, 2008. Wajda co-wrote the script with Olga Tokarczuk, winner of the Polish literary award Nike. The shoot will last till the end of September.
“Tatarak,” which translates as “Sweet Flag,” is the story of an older woman who has to face solitude in her marriage to a workaholic doctor and has an encounter with a young man. The main role is played by leading Polish actress Krystyna Janda.
The movie is produced by Michal Kwiecinski and his company Akson Studio, responsible for Wajda's Oscar nominated Katyn. Polish public broadcaster PTV is also involved in the project. The producers are not revealing the final budget of the movie and the list of other co-producers at this time.
