Suicide Squad: Tom Hardy Drops Out

Tom Hardy has dropped out of Warner’s “Suicide Squad,” in which he was to play the Rick Flag role in the DC Entertainment tentpole directed by David Ayer.

“Suicide Squad” stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne. The movie will begin shooting in April in Toronto and has an August 5, 2016, release date.

Based on the DC comicbook, the story centers on the team of supervillains who are given a chance at redemption by the government.

Jake Gyllenhaal, who worked with Ayer on “End of Watch,” is being considered as a replacement, according to the Wrap.

Hardy exited the project due to a tight schedule. He’s currently shooting Western drama “The Revenant,” directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and with Leonardo DiCaprio also starring.

Hardy is also committed to a publicity tour for Warner’s upcoming “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which opens May 15.
