Monterey Media has bought all U.S. and Canada rights to Lee Wilkof’s No Pay, Nudity, starring Gabriel Byrne, Nathan Lane and Frances Conroy.
Wilkof’s directorial debut is written by Ethan Sandler.
Tani Cohen is the producer with Cliff Chenfeld and Seth Greenland executive producing.
“Funny and charming, and also infused with the emotions faced by so many of us as life doesn’t always deliver the hoped for rewards, were my first wonderful thoughts upon seeing the film,” said Scott Mansfield, Monterey Media managing partner.
Byrne portrays a middle-aged actor who has lost his way and how he relies on his friends (Lane and Conroy) in the Equity Lounge. He returns to his hometown in Dayton, Ohio, to play the fool in “King Lear” and connects with an old girlfriend, played by Valerie Mahaffey.
The cast includes Donna Murphy, J. Smith Cameron, Jon Michael Hill, Zoe Perry, Mark Blum and the late J.R. Horne.
Wilkof created the role of Seymour opposite Ellen Greene’s Audrey in the original Off-Broadway production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”
Byrne’s credits include “Miller’s Crossing,” “The Usual Suspects,” “Spider,” “Vampire Academy” and “The 33.”
He received a Tony nomination this year for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.”
