Mank: Fincher’s Tale of Herman Mankiewicz, Co-Writer of Orson Welles

David Fincher’s new feature, Mank, revolves around “Citizen Kane” screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, with Oscar winner Gary Oldman playing the titular role.

Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Charles Dance, Tuppence Middleton, Arliss Howard, Ferdinand Kingsley, Jamie McShane, Joseph Cross, Sam Troughton, Toby Leonard Moore, Tom Burke, and Tom Pelphrey will also appear in the film.

Mank is based on a script by Fincher’s late father, Jack Fincher, who had penned it prior to his death in 2003.

Specific plot details are vague, but the story will follow Mankiewicz’s tumultuous development, alongside director Orson Welles, of the script for “Citizen Kane,” one of the best films of all time.

Despite the “Citizen Kane’s” critical success, and 11 Oscar nominations, the script was the only element of the film to win an Oscar.
