City That Sailed: Will Smith's Next Film?

July 9, 2009–Will Smith will reteam with his “I Am Legend” director Francis Lawrence. Lawrence will develop “City That Sailed,” a Fox drama about a father who lives on the opposite side of the ocean from his daughter. Their bond is so strong that it causes Manhattan to split off and float across the Atlantic.

Ocean’s Thirteen” writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien will rewrite a script originally penned by Andrew Niccol (“The Truman Show”).  Smith will produce with Overbrook Entertainment partner James Lassiter.

Lawrence expects his next film to be “Water for Elephants,” the Fox 2000 adaptation of Sara Gruen's novel with a script by Richard LaGravanese.  Reese Witherspoon may star in the story of a Depression-era traveling circus.

After starring in three movies in one year, Smith is producing a remake of “The Karate Kid,” starring his own son, Jaden.
