In the second edition, awards were divided by genre. Thus Minnelli’s Ziegfeld Follies (a rather mediocre compilation of songs and sketches) won Best Musical Comedy, and Dmytryk’s Oscar nominated noir (about anti-Semitism) Crossfire received the Best Social Film.
