Trouble the Water: Docu to be Released in August 2008

June 17, 2008–Elsewhere Films and Louverture Films will release the 2008 Sundance Fest Grand Jury Prize winner, “Trouble the Water,” which was also shown as part of the New Directors/New Films presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, in August 2008.

In “Trouble the Water,” aspiring rap artist Kim Roberts and her husband Scott show what survival is all about when they are trapped in New Orleans by deadly floodwaters, and then seize a chance for a new beginning. This January, Kim Roberts travelled while 9-months pregnant to Sundance to support the film. Following the films standing ovation at the festival, Kim drove through a snowstorm to the hospital at two in the morning and gave birth to her first daughter on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. TROUBLE THE WATER was honored with the Sundance Film Festival 2008 Documentary Grand Jury Prize.

Directed by Tia Lessin and Carl Deal and Executive Produced by Danny Glover and Joslyn Barnes, Trouble the Water features an original musical score by Neil Davidge and Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack, and the music of Dr. John, Mary Mary, Citizen Cope, John Lee Hooker, and the Free Agents Brass Band and introducing Black Kold Madina.
