Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri: McDonagh (Seven Psychopaths) Follow Up

Fox Searchlight has set release dates for three films in the prime awards season.

Battle of the Sexes, from the 2006 hit Little Miss Sunshine husband and wife team, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, will open after the Toronto Film Fest, on September 22.

Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths follow-up, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, hits theaters on October 13.

Guillermo del Toro’s Cold War fairy tale, The Shape of Water, will be released on December 8.

Dayton and Faris’ film, about the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, should get early fall festival profile.

Written by the 2008 Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire scribe Simon Beaufoy, it stars this year’s Oscar winner Emma Stone (La La Land) and Oscar nominee Steve Carell.

McDonagh is the writer-director of an Oscar winner in the short film category.  He earned an original screenplay nomination for 2008’s In Bruges.

The cast of his new film includes Abbie Cornish, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell, and Frances McDormand is rumored to give a stand-out performance.

Del Toro’s last artistically acclaimed film was the 2006’s Pan’s Labyrinth.

Sally Hawkins leads his new film, about a lonely government laboratory worker whose life is changed forever when she and a co-worker (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified document. Oscar nominees Michael Shannon and Richard Jenkins also star.
