Strong Ones, The: Chilean Omar Zuniga Hidalgo’s Feature Debut, Gay Love Story

The Strong Ones (Los Fuertos)

The feature debut by Chilean writer-director Omar Zuniga Hidalgo, The Strong Ones is a moving gay love story, with some erotic scenes.

Lucas (Samuel Gonzalez) is visiting his dentist sister (Marcela Salinas) and her husband (Rafael Contreras) in a small seaside community before heading to Montreal for graduate work. Back in Santiago, his parents have not embraced his homosexuality.

During his visit, he meets and falls for Antonio (Antonio Altamirano), a fisherman who also takes part in reenactments of 19th-century battles for tourists. Soon the two face a dilemma: Lucas still wants to leave the country, while Antonio favors staying.
