Saura, Carlos: Argentina, Live-Performance Tango Documentary

Variety Reports

Paris-based MK2 has scored many sales on Argentina, a live-performance documentary about tango by critically-acclaimed Carlos Saura, a Nuevo Cine Espanol’s leading figure, in the run up to Ventana Sur.

“Argentina” perpetuates Saura’s lyrical exploration of popular dance and song beyond “Blood Wedding,” “Carmen,””Fados” and most recently “Flamenco, Flamenco” which was released in 2010.

MK2 has sold the docu to Concorde telemuenchen (Germany), Palace (Australia), Russian Report (Russia), Filmcoopi (Switzerland), Filmarti (Turkey), Bulgaria Film Vision (Bulgaria), Imovision (Brazil), SVT (Sweden) and MCF Megacom (ex-Yugoslavia).

Saura produced “Argentina” with Marcelo Schapces and Alejandro Israel at Buenos Aires’ Barakacine and Paris-based Mondex’s Guy Amon and Stephane Sorlat.

MK2 will be hosting a special screening of “Argentina” in Ventana Sur on December 2. Epicentre will release “Argentina” on Dec. 30 on 50 screens.

MK2’slate also boasts Naomi Kawase’s “An,” which opened at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard and turns out to be a major theatrical success in Spain and in Sweden
