Still the Water: Japanese Naomi Kawase’s Coming of Age Tale

Japanese director Naomi Kawase has been a regular presence at the Cannes Film Fest.  This year, she has premiered “Still The Water” in the main competition to largely positive critical response.

Set on a Japanese Island, “Still The Water” is a coming-of-age romance.

Kawase ranks as one of Japan’s best-known directors.  She won the Camera d’Or in 1997 with “Suzaku,” the Grand Prix with “The Mourning Forest” in 2007, and she competed at Cannes with “Hanezu” in 2011.
