Adapted by Josephine Lovett and Joseph Moncure March, the famous operatic melodrama stars Sylvia Sidney in the titular role, and the young Cary Grant.
It was the seventh Paramount picture he had made in one year, 1932 (representing 1o percent of his career output of 72 movies!)
Music is credited to W. Franke Harling, though much of it derives from Giacomo Puccini’s famous opera, Madama Butterfly.
Production values, especially cinematography by David Abel and art direction by Ward Ihnen, are good.
