Diane Keaton won the 1977 Best Actress Oscar at her first nomination for Woody Allen's semi-autobiographical comedy "Annie Hall."  The other lead nominees that year were: Anne Bancroft and Shirley MacLaine, both for "The Turning point," Jane Fonda for "Julia," and Marsha Mason for "The Goodbye Girl."

Postlethwaite, Peter: Oscar Nominated British Actor Dies at 64

January 3, 2011–Pete Postlethwaite, the brilliant British actor,  has died at the age of 64. He had been suffering from cancer.  He was Oscar nominated for supporting actor in political picture "In the Name of the Father," playing one of four men wrongly accused of planting an IRA bomb.

Oscar 2010: Social Network Is Critics Choice

"The Social Network" won the best picture award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Sony's drama also took the director award for David Fincher, who shared the prize with Olivier Assayas for "Carlos."
