Female Storytellers
None of this year’s women filmmakers were nominated for the best director Globes category.
Natalie Portman made this clear with her barb in helping to present the award with Ron Howard.
In awarding “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” the best screenplay Globe, three female screenwriters were left out:
Liz Hannah, co-screenwriter of “The Post”
Vanessa Taylor, co-screenwriter of “The Shape of Water”
Greta Gerwig, writer and director, “Lady Bird”
“Three Billboards” was one of the group’s favorite films on the whole, earning four Golden Globes.
“Lady Bird” did win best picture, in the comedy-musical division, but for some, the win was tempered by lack of recognition for Greta Gerwig’s achievement as a new, singular female voice.
