New York Film Critics 2017: Gerwig’s Lady Bird Wins Best Picture

Gerwig’s film is the most critically acclaimed film of the year.

Only two films earned multiple honors, and both by distributor A24:

“The Florida Project” claimed best supporting actor for Willem Dafoe and best director for Sean Baker.

“Lady Bird” was named best picture and also won for lead actress Sairose Ronan.  It is her second NYFCC prize in three years; she previously won in 2015 for “Brooklyn.”

“Call Me by Your Name” star Timothée Chalamet became the youngest winner of the group’s best actor prize.
“Mudbound” DP Rachel Morrison became the first woman to win the cinematography award.
This year’s NYFCC ceremony, taking place on January 3, will be dedicated to the memory of film critic Richard Schickel.
