Hollywood 2017: Harvey Weinstein Dropped as Producer of TV Series Waco and Yellowstone

Harveygate: Harvey Weinstein has been dropped as an exec-producer on Paramount Network’s upcoming Weinstein Co. drama series “Waco” and “Yellowstone.”

The news marks another significant repercussion for Weinstein from the revelation that he has faced allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct going back decades, as reported last week by the New York Times.

Weinstein was fired Sunday night be the board of directors of the film and TV company he co-founded with his brother, Bob Weinstein, in 2005.

A rep for Viacom’s Paramount Network confirmed that Weinstein’s name would be removed from “Waco” and “Yellowstone” and the docu-series “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story” but referred questions to Weinstein Co. A rep for TWC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Weinstein Co. is handling international distribution for Amazon’s upcoming Matt Weiner anthology series “The Romanoffs,” but Harvey Weinstein never had an EP credit on that show.

TWC also has a project in the works at Showtime with director Oliver Stone revolving around the notorious Guantanamo prison complex. Showtime confirmed the project is still in development.

The loss of credit on multiple shows is a blow to Weinstein’s public profile as a producer, and it may also amount to a financial hit over the long term. An industry figure with Weinstein’s clout undoubtedly commanded a per episode fee in the low to mid five-figures for his work as an EP.

TWC is moving quickly in an attempt to contain the fast-growing fallout from the Times’ expose, which detailed allegations that Weinstein engaged in a pattern of pressuring young women into sexual encounters.

Paramount is banking on “Waco” and “Yellowstone” as centerpieces of the brand makeover of its Spike TV cabler which will transform into its new name as of January 18.

“Waco,” starring Taylor Kitsch in the story of the Christian sect that battled the FBI in 1993, is set to premiere January 24, 2018.
