Von Lux: Brady Corbet’s Second Feature (Neon Release)–Natalie Portman’s Oscar Card

Neon has acquired Brady Corbet’s Von Lux, a well executed melodrama about a troubled pop diva, starring Oscar winner Natalie Portman (Black Swan), who may garner yet another lead nomination.

The film world premiered to great acclaim at this year’s Venice Film Fest, before playing at Toronto Film Fest over the weekend.

Several other studios were interested in acquiring one of the hottest projects this fall.

The indie studio could place Von Lux in theaters before the end of this calendar year in order to qualify for Oscars.

Neon used the same strategy to great success with I Tonya, which went on to score Best Actress Oscar nomination for Margot Robbie and Best Supporting Oscar Award for Allison Janney.

Vox Lux is the second feature for Corbet, who had previously directed The Childhood of a Leader.

Previous Neon releases include “Colossal,” “Beach Rats,” and “Ingrid Goes West.”

The studio had an arthouse breakout with Three Identical Strangers, a documentary about triplets separated at birth (and then reconnected), which grossed $11.3 million, an impressive figure for non-fiction.
