Oscar 2020: Show Much Earlier, on February 9

The 2020 Oscar ceremony will take place earlier than usual, on February 9, instead of the last Sunday of that month.

“You’re going to have no room to breathe,” says one veteran strategist of the shortened awards season. “You’re going to be in the deep end from the beginning.”

Sundance Fest is sticking to its late-January timetable, but other, smaller festivals and events might suffer.

The BAFTA Awards will be on February 2, after taking place February 10 this year.

The Santa Barbara Film Fest is scheduled for January 15-25, after taking place Jan. 30-Feb. 9 this year.

The Palm Springs Film Fest will run January 3-13 in 2020.
