Blade Runner 2049: Huge Demand for Advance Tickets

Online ticketing service Fandango reports impressive advance ticket sales for Blade Runner 2049, a week ahead of its October 6 opening.

According to Fandango, the sequel is “significantly” outselling “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “The Martian,” and “Gravity” at the same point in the sales cycle.

The film, which stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford was voted one of fall’s top three most anticipated films (along with “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Justice League”) in a recent Fandango survey of more than 1,000 moviegoers.

“Fandango is seeing strong advance ticket sales for ‘Blade Runner 2049’ as the film continues to attract great buzz,” said Fandango managing editor Erik Davis.

Rotten Tomatoes reported Friday that initial reviews of the film — set three decades after the events in the 1982 original — had generated a 97% “fresh” score.

Initial tracking on “Blade Runner 2049,” unveiled on Sept. 14, had projected that it would earn over 40 million in its first weekend.

Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival”) directed the film, which also stars Jared Leto as the villain, and Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James, Carla Juri, and Robin Wright in supporting roles. Warner Bros. is releasing the film in North America, while Sony is handling international. Alcon Entertainment and Sony co-financed the pic.
